Edwards and Hunter, McCain and Blondes - Why Do So Many Powerful Men Have Extra-Marital Affairs In Office?

The blogosphere is reporting that the National Enquirer has a timeline planned to rollout "Breaking News" articles on the John Edwards-Reille Hunter affair from now until the election. This week´s Enquirer "Breaking News" details the Baby Pictures, Edwards friends´ funding Hunter´s escape to the Virgin Islands and their extreme stretch in trying to drag Obama into this story because the house in the Virgin Islands belongs to someone who donated to both campaigns. They and Rush Limbaugh are still attempting to blame Mrs. Edwards either for not being sexually active enough or for knowing and not outing her husband previously. Either of these directions are so far fetched it makes both Limbaugh and the Enquirer´s right wing agenda laughable, ridiculous and unscrupulous.
While Edwards himself admitted the affair and left himself open for all of these public attacks, at least he is no longer in the political arena. My suggestion to him is to either cut all ties to Ms. Hunter or confess all because the Enquirer is not going to let up on him or his family until the election. He may as well get it all overwith. I cannot speak for Mrs. Edwards. My heart goes out to her in these very troubled times. She and her children are just left to cope with this mess until it is all over.
John McCain:
Last weekend, John McCain admitted the lowest moment in his life. He said he is most ashamed of his extra marital affair with his current wife, then Cindy Lou Hensley, and the end of his first marriage. As if an Edward´s affair deja vu moment, John McCain confessed that in April, 1979 he met Ms. Cindy and had an affair from his ill wife. The first Mrs. McCain had suffered illness due to a devastating car accident she had in 1969. In Feb., 1980, he married the blonde, Ms. Cindy, and, unbelievably, Gary Hart (another politician philanderer), was McCain´s groomsman. McCain did not mention, however, as reported by the NY Times, that Top Aids were convinced he was having an affair with a Cindy look-a-like lobbyist named Vicki Iseman.
I wonder why it is that Powerful Men cheat, particularly those in the Political Arena. We see so many headlines about their indiscretions. This behavior is so blatant, it makes me wonder.
Is it the headline if they cheat?
OR
Is it the headline if they DO NOT cheat, like Obama?
It makes you wonder!

Politicians have big egos, that is why.

Don't be surprised if some dirt like this turns up on Obama also when the mud slinging really starts. Who knows?

A little off topic but I just noticed the caption under the picture of the two girls "I am an American." Anti's refuse to acknowledge that there are citizens in this country of Hispanic and Asian descent? You never quit with the demonizations do you, dee?

I am an anti and I know many of them as close acquaintances and never once have they claimed otherwise. Anti means anti-illegal immigration dee, not anti-U.S. citizen of any race.

Pat, I do not thing Obama has has an affair. He would have been outed already if he had.

Pat, Regarding the children pix "I am an American!" this is in response to your side´s "Anchor Baby" agenda, nothing else!

Do we have to once again go over the "anchor baby" terminology. It doesn't mean that we anti's don't recognize that these children born from illegal aliens are American citizens according to the mis-interpretation of the 14th Amendment as it is now.

Once again, I will explain to you what it means. Anchor baby just means that the "parents" here illegally have anchored themselves unto our country by virtue of the birth of their child. It is a slam actually against the parents, not the child.

Actually Pat, Please keep to the topic of whichever article you are posting to please.

This article clearly depicts the wrong doings of men in power. Edwards did it. McCain did it. Both had ill wives.

Doesnt say much for either man´s character.

Then McCain is also alleged to have an affair a few years ago similar to the Edwards - Hunter affair. (btw Hunter is the perfect name for the other woman!)

Iseman looks exactly like the 2nd Mrs McCain. Another prez candidate groupie told to back off by the staff!

Then there is "slick willie" and his cigar fiasco.

Dee said...

Funny how pompous, egotistical men smoke Big Cigars (like Limbaugh too). Must be over compensating!!

Anonymous said...

Slick willie wasn't smoking them, lol!

Pat is right about this. It is the immense egos of politicians and their power, wealth, and sometimes charisma, that attracts female groupies like flies. Once that scenario is in place with all that female adulation, many virile men will find hard to resist what is being served up to them on a platter, especially if they have a lesion on the sexual lobe of their brains like Ted Kennedy, his older brother JFK, Jesse Jackson, Gary Hart, and numerous other members of congress and high political office. Besides it's not just men in office. It's a man thing, although not so much anymore. The question is why are these bright guy and gals so willing to jeopardize their marriages and careers? Part of the answer is that there is ample evidence that women don't care enough to make their spouses pay through the nose in divorce proceedings.

Can we get back to how the Edwards story isn't newsworthy?

McCain acknowledged this affair some time ago, I guess it wasn't newsworthy then. Why bring it up now?

Ulty,
I think you are right.
The wife, even in the worst of cases, loves their philanderers too much.
I think Hillary loves ole Bill.
I think Elizabeth loves ole JE.

What was weird was, as I researched this, I found that McCain, after he went through his 1st divorce to marry Cindy (18 years his junior and extremely wealthy), he continued to have a very good relationship with his first wife.

Arizonian,
McCain just re acknowledged his affair last Sunday at the Saddleback forum. The blogosphere Enquirer is going to slowly roll out more details on the Edwards affair until the election.

Your article talks about the end of the love affair between the left and mccain. hmmm (more tongue in cheek?)

I found this on a website:
"Cheating spouse statistics confirm that 50 and 70 percent of married men (between 38 and 53 million men) have cheated or will cheat on their wives. One study found that 2/3 of the wives (26 to 36 million women) whose husbands were cheating had no idea their husbands were having an affair - largely because they failed to recognize the telltale signs."

After his acknowledgement last Sunday, I did read some articles about McCain and his first wife. Not nice. Maybe that is why he acknowledged it last Sunday.

"when McCain returned to America in 1973 to a fanfare of publicity and a handshake from Richard Nixon, he discovered his wife (a former model) had been disfigured in a terrible car crash three years earlier. Her car had skidded on icy roads into a telegraph pole on Christmas Eve, 1969. Her pelvis and one arm were shattered by the impact and she suffered massive internal injuries.

When Carol was discharged from hospital after six months of life-saving surgery, the prognosis was bleak. In order to save her legs, surgeons had been forced to cut away huge sections of shattered bone, taking with it her tall, willowy figure. She was confined to a wheelchair and was forced to use a catheter.

Through sheer hard work, Carol learned to walk again. But when John McCain came home from Vietnam, she had gained a lot of weight and bore little resemblance to her old self.

Today, she stands at just 5ft4in and still walks awkwardly, with a pronounced limp. Her body is held together by screws and metal plates and, at 70, her face is worn by wrinkles that speak of decades of silent suffering.

For nearly 30 years, Carol has maintained a dignified silence about the accident, McCain and their divorce. But last week at the bungalow where she now lives at Virginia Beach, a faded seaside resort 200 miles south of Washington, she told The Mail on Sunday how McCain divorced her in 1980 and married Cindy, 18 years his junior and the heir to an Arizona brewing fortune, just one month later.

Carol insists she remains on good terms with her ex-husband, who agreed as part of their divorce settlement to pay her medical costs for life. ‘I have no bitterness,’ she says. ‘My accident is well recorded. I had 23 operations, I am five inches shorter than I used to be and I was in hospital for six months. It was just awful, but it wasn’t the reason for my divorce.

‘My marriage ended because John McCain didn’t want to be 40, he wanted to be 25. You know that happens...it just does.’

Some of McCain’s acquaintances are less forgiving, however. They portray the politician as a self-centred womaniser who effectively abandoned his crippled wife to ‘play the field’. They accuse him of finally settling on Cindy, a former rodeo beauty queen, for financial reasons."

So Ulty, you were right. The wife did not hold the husband accountable.

I just noticed your reference to their preference for blondes. Does that bother you, dee? lol.

Dee said...

Well, I dont know if their preference for Blondes bothers me. What does bother me is Edwards wife is ill and McCains 1st wife is ill. They are both brunettes. I know Elizabeth is very intelligent. It did bother me that the bimbo talked negatively about Mrs. Edwards. She is into the stars and vibes and seems like a real airhead.
I dont know too much about the 1st Mrs McCain but I did read she was a tall model but after the car accident she was severely injured, shrunk 4 inches, gained 50 pounds and requires a walker or wheelchair to get around. Reading the articles on this my heart was broken for her. McCain was a philanderer but back in the day it was never reported. He met young Cyndy and within a year told his wife he was divorcing her and marrying rich Cyndy. She still loved him but let him go. Such a very sad story.
